The Health Effects of Smoking Hookah

INTRODUCTION
Attention Getter: Tradition plays a big role in the human experience. Regardless of whether the tradition is beneficial or detrimental, often times people continue to carry them out in order feel that the period of time they live in is connected to all other periods of time, that they can become part of something larger than themselves. There are many traditions taking place today that can be traced back to centuries before now. One of these traditions is hookah, a water pipe used to smoke tobacco through cooled water.
Reason to Listen: In distant history, hookah was especially popular in India, Turkey, and all throughout the greater middle east. It remains to be widespread in those same regions today (Chattopadhyay, 2000).Most cafés in the Arab and Persian world offer shishas. Outside its native region, smoking the hookah has become prevalent in North America, South America, Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, Tanzania, and South Africa (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2012).
Credibility: Being middle eastern myself, hookah-otherwise known as shisha- is a significant part of my culture and has always been something that my friends and family members did casually,without questioning the health consequences.
