In her music video “Haunted” American singer, song writer, and actress Beyoncé Knowles shows us a variety of eerie imagery. Beyoncè drives up to a haunted mansion dressed posh when she enters there is a butler waiting for her with a lighter to light her cigarette she takes one puff and smashes it to the ground. As she drops her coat she begins to walk through the mansion passing a variety of rooms. In each room there are people in weird, scary, clothing, and makeup acting out something hedonistic. The video was created to reveal the things our society fears, because it shows us several different outlooks of social down falls such as black crimes using the four black men with their face painted black and white as a representation suggesting they are criminals.
As we all know in todays society black crimes is a major headline, it ties into police brutality leading into Black Lives Matter which is major issue as well that is why Knowles labeled it as a haunting. The meaning of the color black and white has a result of racism between the two because the dark color is based upon the negative and the light color the positive telling us that white is better than black. Placing the white all over the face and strategically placing the black around the eyes and lips shows us how the bad is within the way we view things and also how we use our voice to speak upon our opinions which are all misconceptions of how things are realistically. This shows us a reflection of the bad that’s inside the good. This conception gives us a replica of how things are looked at in our society as a whole because things today can be so misjudged if not properly presented with factual
