Brian was stranded for 54 days before his rescue. He had to learn many things for him to survive in the wild. He had to uptake upon many tasks, so wish he could survive. Brian had to learn to survive off the land. He has seen many things that a kid his age should not see. He was accustom to living off his mom and dad, but he had to fend for himself. When he landed the plane he knew if he didn't fly it he would crash and die. Brian did things that he would have never done before the crash like eat turtle eggs, but this is what changed the Brian he was at the beginning into the Brian he is now.

While he was on the plane he saw the dismembered head of the dead pilot. If I was Brian I would of went into a vegetative state and not wanted to live, but he kept going and he dealt the odds that were not in his favor.
