Imagine applying for a position; imagine putting your whole heart into the application process and placing everything you have into the pursuit of this job. What if you knew that in order to secure that job, and keep it, it would be necessary to conceal a part of yourself. Consider being passed over for promotions, treated poorly by your colleagues, and being unfairly dismissed from your position simply because of the way you chose to conduct yourself in your private life. This is the reality for homosexuals in much of the professional world. Every day many homosexuals face discrimination in their workplace. The European Union found that twenty percent of French citizens belonging to the LGB community felt they had been discriminated against at work or when looking for work in 2012 (“European Union…” 2013). …show more content…

In comparison to most of the world, France is a progressive nation in terms of LGBT rights. The nation does not concern itself with differentiation between same-sex couples and heterosexual couples – same-sex marriage and adoption are legal in every territory of France. Additionally, openly gay individuals are permitted to serve in the French military. Most importantly, the law bans all anti-gay discrimination, including discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation in employment (“France Archives…” 2013).
