OMEGA SUPPORTS EXTENSION OF TPS FOR HAITIANS
Washington, DC - In a matter of weeks, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) extended to some 50,000 Haitians living in the United States will expire and unless extended most of them will be deported to an uncertain future in a country still dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters. After the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince on January 12, 2010, the Obama administration granted Temporary Protected Status to Haitian immigrants who were already in the United States. This protected status protects them from deportation. The decision of whether to extend TPS depends on one very important factor, and that is whether conditions in the immigrant’s home country have improved that upon return they will not face inhuman treatment.…
