1. According to the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People not only does it mean taking initiative it also means that as human being we are responsible for our lives. Our behavior is a function of our decision, not our condition. We can subordinate feeling to value. We have the initiative and the responsibility to make thing happen. Proactive people can carry their own weather with them whether it rains or shine makes no differences to them they are value driven; If their value is to produce good quality work, it isn 't a function of whether the weather is conductive to it or not.
2. The first response to "I have to go to class" is I choose to go to class. The second response to "The rules won 't allow that" is I can follow the rules and still be successful. The third response to "That 's just the way it is" is I can choose a different option. The fourth response to "That 's too much work; I can 't do it" is Even though it is a lot of work, I can do it.
3. According to Stephen R. Covey when we focus on the Circle of Concern we empower the things within it to control us. We aren 't taking the proactive initiative necessary to affect positive change as long as we focus on the Circle of Concern. We accomplish nothing except to increase our own feelings of inadequacy and helplessness. When you focus on the Circle of Influence you work on things that you can do something about.
