The two guest speaker from the women’s center were very informative, and I learned a lot of valuable information from them. It is evident that rape and sexual assault are rarely talked about in our cultural, thus it is sickening that many women in college will face being sexually assaulted. Not only are women at risk, but the LGBTQ community are too at a high risk of encountering these acts. It is clear that our culture oppresses against woman in college and the LGBTQ communityt because they are at the highest risk of encountering these act. Something needs to happen because nobody should have to be raped, beaten, or sexually assaulted. Our society should stop hiding that these problems exists, and we should start looking at ways to prevent …show more content…
Many of these scenarios are every day occurrences for the average college student. When they talked about a guy grabbing the girls butt at a party, it was interesting to hear what our classmates responses were. I have encounter this type of behavior before; however, I am the type of person that is not afraid to tell someone to stop. It amazes me that many men in our culture find it okay to treat woman like objects; furthermore, I could never imagine my fiancé treating any women like they are an object. I believe that our media and upbringing is a huge problem with the way men behave towards women. Men are taught to be strong-willed, masculine, and the bread-makers in our society; however, this causes many men to be afraid of showing any emotions. We should be more accepting of men showing their emotions because it shows us that they are capable of being compassionate. It is evident that not all men have this outrageous perspective of women; however, there are far too many in our society that do. No women should have to accept the behavior of a man that makes her feel uncomfortable because our cultural makes it acceptable. Overall, it is evident that our culture makes women sex …show more content…
I have never seen that video before, and the video was truly hard to watch because rape is such a real thing in our society. I thought it was amazing that Lady Gaga chose to take on a topic that no one wants to talk about, and I believe this is truly a great step in the right direction for our society. We need to realize that rape in colleges are a huge problem in our society, and that something needs to be done to prevent it from happening. It was sickening to see how people that are raped go into depression so quickly. It is disheartening that they often blame themselves, and that they completely isolate themselves from their friends and family. I also find it sad that some people are forced to quick school because the rape is too hard to overcome. I am thankful that our college has a women’s center because it is important for people who face sexual abuse and/or assault to have someone to consult with. Overall, I was taken back by Lady Gaga’s video; I thought it addressed a topic that many are not willing to talk about; furthermore, I hope that this video will be an eye-opener to many people in our society. Rape is a real thing, thus something must be done to prevent

Tina deVaron’s article “At Colleges Plagued with Date Rape, Why ‘No’ Still Means ‘Yes’” argues that the amount of date rape on college campuses is due to women feeling that they have to tolerate the lewd behaviors being exhibited by young college men. DeVaron starts the article describing a college a cappella performance. As part of their performance an all male group pretended to unzip their pants and then continued to “thrust their pelvises” towards a meek young female on stage. She explains how this type of lewd behavior is being allowed to happen on college campuses all over, enabling men to rape. She claims these unsafe environments are not being properly addressed.…

Rape: Nature or Nurture? Women are overrepresented in the rape victim pool. Men can be victims of rape as well, but rape mainly effects women (Miller 383). This leads theorists to the question: what is different in males that causes them to rape far more often than females? Often, the answer stems from either a nature or nurture standpoint.…

What is so powerful about this film is that it uses testimonies from rape survivors to insinuate that sexual assault on school campuses are common and that they are okay as long as the victim is still alive, but it is not. In America alone, a woman gets raped every 2 minutes, that 's 30 women every hour, and 720 women in a day. Thousands of perpetrators get away with rape and in my opinion, this is because of cases such as Brock Turner 's who had his punishment dropped from 14 years to just six months which has now turned to three because of "good behavior". It is also because of judges like Judge Aaron Persky who let criminals get away with rape because of things such as being successful and a social status. Just because someone who is successful, privileged, and young, committed a crime they regret doesn 't mean that their punishment should be light. The victim stated in the letter that she feels that if she wouldn 't have gone, nothing would have happened but that then she realizes it would have happened, just to someone else.…

    1. Why was it important for Sandy to keep the school principal and others informed about her plans? It is important to keep the school officials informed because she would have to validate her reasoning for wanting to address the situation via a group rather than individually. Because this is not the school 's usual protocol and there would probably be some skepticism of her desire to handle the situation in this manner, so it is important for this to be a collaborative effort. Moreover, Sandy was working with teens who had a history of violent behavior, so for her safety and the children 's as well it would be wise to keep officially informed of the group 's progress.…

Rape myths are attitudes and generally false beliefs about rape that are widely and persistently held. These myths serve to deny and justify male sexual aggression against women. In the book Missoula: Rape and The Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer common rape myths are discussed in depth; these rape myths include: victims are strictly female, rape is not a common occurrence, and if a girl is raped she will report the crime when it occurs. These things are just utterly untrue. Although there are exceptions to all of these myths, these should not be widely accepted in today 's society.…

Rape culture is very common in today’s society. Examples of rape culture are everywhere and have slowly made its way into everyday life that it is almost invisible. In definition, rape culture is a culture in where rape or sexual violence is condoned or normalized, but deeper in the definition there are other subjects such as victim blaming, objectification and much more. It is when the victims are told to avoid being raped instead of the rapists being taught to have common sense to respect individuals and not rape. Rape culture exists and is a great problem that needs to be terminated and addressed.…

When american culture thinks of rape, women are immediately the victims that come to one's mind. We’ve painted a picture that says, women are initially the one gender that can be raped, and if we were to think a man could get raped by a women. It would be absolutely ridiculous to think a women could overpower a man. We have adapted to live in a civilization that romantics about masculinity. Unfortunately in the process we’ve turned a blind eye to smallest anticipation that a man can be raped by a women as well.…
