However, this argument is not true because police brutality can happen to anyone. The violence by police is not just due to racial discrimination. “Even though racial profiling still exists, anyone regardless of race, gender or age can become victim of police brutality.” (S. Danilinaand) While most of the victims portrayed in the media tend to show a bias towards racial profiling, any civilian can be targeted by a police when concerning police brutality. Most people tend to base their opinion on the news that is presented on television or even social media such as Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. Most articles from social media will only show the racial view of the violence to spark an argument for the sake of getting out one sided information. While this does get the story out to the world faster and sparks lots of conversation, the people reading the article can form the opinion that the police are only doing racial profiling. Walter Scott made the mistake of running from the police. However, it is against the law for a police officer to shoot an unarmed suspect in the back. Officer Slager lied in the original police report stating Mr. Scott reached for Officer Slager’s taser. This was proved to be false when the video from eyewitness Feidin Santana was released and showed Mr Scott fleeing and being shot in the back eight times. The video shows Officer Slager planting his taser on Mr Scott 's person. This is a deliberate act of police brutality. The events that occurred in this instance help to heighten the fears of those that already have the opinion that cops jump to violence.
