Who does not love a juicy, mouth-watering, bacon-covered, cheeseburger? Who does not love that slice of pumpkin pie after Thanksgiving dinner with that giant dollop of fluffy, whipped cream swirled on top? Perhaps a vegetarian or one who is lactose intolerant. It is relatively safe to say that most people would enjoy that juicy cheeseburger or that slice of pie. However, the question that should be asked is not who does not love to indulge, but if they should? According to the Center for Disease Control, “childhood obesity is the fastest growing epidemic in America” (Childhood Obesity Facts). If one were to evaluate every person they had met or had known in their lifetime, it would probably be safe to assume that they knew someone who had been overweight or obese at one point in their life. The words overweight and obese imply conditions of varying degrees of excess weight in one human being. How does America address childhood obesity? The people of the United States need to make strides to live healthier lives themselves, so that they may help the unhealthy children that live in its society. Americans are known for a lot of things, their patriotism, their military, their government, but sadly they are also known for being fat! The US Department of Health and Human Services did a survey in 2010 and discovered that 68.8% of Americans are overweight and some obese.
