The Grinch Psychological Analysis

When I was a child, the Grinch had always been my favorite holiday movies. As I was aging and taking more classes in regards about psychological disorders, I had realized that the Grinch could be diagnosed with a real life disorder. According to the DSM-5, the Grinch seems to be suffering from antisocial personality disorder. The Grinch is an unhappy man who lives with only his dog, and only social companion, on the top of Mount Crumpits, a 10,000 foot tall snowy mountain. He has no family or friends, does not go often and prefers to be left alone in his cave. With the many present and current characterizations and/ or problems that revolve around the Grinch, many of them put him in the running for being diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. According to the Mayo Clinic, the antisocial personality disorder is defined as being a condition where a person shows no regard for right and wrong. The individual ignores the feelings of others and would antagonize or manipulate with no feelings of remorse. These types of characterizations were shown multiple times during the movie. For example, in a flashback scene where he is a child being teased by one of his classmates about having a beard, he flies into an uncontrollable rage. He grabs the Christmas tree and flings it across the room with no regret of harming anyone else in the room. This is also the point in time where be created his hate for Christmas. Another example of the Grinch showing hints of having antisocial personality disorder in the movie is when the Grinch dresses up as Santa Claus and plans on ruining Christmas.
