The Greenhouse Effect On Venus's Atmosphere

Decent Essays
Venus has an atmosphere consisting of 95.5% Carbon Dioxide and 3.5% Nitrogen, although other minerals can be traced such as; Carbon Monoxide, Helium and Argon. The amount of Carbon Dioxide in Venus's atmosphere causes a severe greenhouse effect, lifting the temperatures to about 870 Fahrenheit and -365 at night!

The Greenhouse Effect is when heat gets trapped in the clouds, causing the body to warm up. Also it's atmosphere is very reflective. This is what makes it hard to see through a telescope because the light also reflects onto the Earth. Probes visited Venus and have shown that the atmosphere is always constant (even throughout the night!) and there are no significant seasons.

The surface of Venus was mapped in 1991 by the Magellan expedition, which revealed evidence of extensive volcanic activity on the planet--yet the timing of this volcanic activity remains a mystery. About 80 percent of Venus' surface is covered in volcanic material. Most of the volcanoes are believed to be inactive, yet there is some evidence to suggest more "recently" activity ("recent" in this context meaning within the last 500 million years). There are no lava nor caldera (craters created by volcanic collapse), which would seem to suggest the volcanoes have not been active in millennia. However, the surface of Venus has almost no impact craters, which suggests a relatively "new" surface (again, "new" referring to hundreds of millions…

The earth tilts possibly due to being hit by an asteroid billions of years ago causing it to tilt in the sun 's orbit. Therefore its axis that should be completely vertical top to bottom) tilts. The earth completes one turn daily therefore all the world will receive sunlight and will enjoy the changes of season because of this tilt. It has nothing to do with how close it is to the sun but because the axis is not straight. The axis stays tilted in the same direction as it orbits around the sun that is why only certain parts received more sunlight on a specific time of day and in the year (seasons).…

Atmosphere: The atmosphere of Pluto is complex in many ways. It is made of nitrogen with very small amounts of methane and carbon monoxide, which are all vaporized from ice on Pluto's surface. When Pluto is closer to the Sun in its orbit the Sun heats up the ice on PLuto and releases nitrogen, methane and carbon monoxide on Pluto's surface. These ice vaporizes and forms a temporary atmosphere. When Pluto moves farther from the Sun the atmosphere freezes and goes back onto Pluto's surface.…

It rotates too fast for seasons to occur, seeing as Jupiter rotates every 10 hours. Jupiter has several moons; there are 64 known moons in orbit around Jupiter with more being suspected. The largest four moons are Io, which is the body with the most volcanic active in our Solar System, Europa, which is covered in frozen water, which could be covering a slushy, liquid ocean of water, Ganymede, this moon is actually larger than Mercury, and happens to be the only moon in the Solar System that generates a magnetic field on its own, and Callisto, whose surface has some small craters which show indications of recent geologic activity, but is mostly heavily cratered, some of which may have occurred shortly after the creation of the Solar System. These are the Galilean satellites. These are worlds that are diverse and interesting on their own.…

Two of the main gases in the Earth’s atmosphere are Nitrogen and Oxygen, while these are not greenhouse gases some that are include water vapor, Carbon Dioxide, and Methane. The absorption of solar heat is greatly affected by ocean water because of it’s high heat capacity. The main holding center of solar heat is in low latitude oceans which provide most of the fuel that powers the climate system.…
