The Greek Heroic code and the Cardigan Core Values are both ways of life that made a community or civilization what they are. the Greeks are known as more of a warrior society. According to legacy.owensboro.kctcs.edu there are three words that embody the greek heroic code. First is Aristos, this is being the best at what is called for during the situation, such as killing during wartime. Second is Arete, merit can only be bestowed by others. Third is Kleos, Fame and glory can only be achieved through action. For Cardigan, the Core Values are what make us act the way we do, with compassion, integrity, Respect, and courage. Merriam webster dictionary defines empathy as “the capacity for, or the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner.” being a warrior society, the greeks did not show a lot of empathy. Going back to the word Aristos. Being the best at what was needed was mostly war at the time of the greeks. This means that they didn’t have time to feel empathy. It was all fighting for them. This is most in part because they had to be tough, and brave. Empathy shows how good and understanding a person can be. Without having empathy there would be nobody helping the poor or the homeless. A lot of famous people who are millionaires now could have been self made. This means they went from having barely anything to becoming successful. This is how they are able to show empathy towards the people in this world who are poverty stricken. Eventually if we help these people enough there may not be inequality based on socioeconomic status and people will get along. Helping these people is what brings people together as a society. An example of this is a video on youtube that shows one man performing an act of kindness which just keeps getting passed along.
