Personal Narrative Essay: The Greatest Moments In My Life

Superior Essays
In 1997, I was born in a hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. My dad was in the military, so we moved around a lot when I was young. Eventually, my dad got a job in Rapid City, and we settled down here for now 14 years. One of the greatest moments in my life was when I graduated from high school, it was really exciting for me to know I could start a whole new life and leave the other one behind me. I currently live with my parents with my seven other brothers and sisters (Theresa, Jonathan, Dominic, myself, Isabella, Francis, Rebecca, and Christina). With so many people in the family, my parents decided it was best to homeschool all of us, so I spent the next 13 years being taught by my parents and online teachers. During this time, I became …show more content…
I was outside taking Covo for another walk, to find when I came back everybody was getting ready for a hike in the hills. So I quickly changed into some hiking shoes and shorts, and then we were off to the hills. Everybody went for the hike, including my Grandparents. We hiked for about three hours until the trail ended, and then headed back to my Uncle 's house. We had some lunch at a park, and my parents were busy catching up on talk with my Grandparents, Aunt, and two Uncles. Meanwhile, when they were talking, all of us snuck off to a playground nearby, and had a great time playing with our two other cousins from California. We stayed there for around an hour or two, then headed back to the house to make dinner. My Grandpa made his famous St. Louis ribs, my mom made her German potato salad, and my Aunt went to the grocery store for chips and popsicles. After that wonderful dinner, we got the family picture (my memorable object). Our family was in the middle of the picture, my Grandparents and Uncle were at the right, and my Aunt, Uncle, and two Cousins were at the left of the picture. One of my Uncle 's friends was over for the dinner that day, so she took the picture of us on my Uncle 's deck. The picture is important, because it helps bring back the fun memories we had in Colorado with our family. After the picture, we sat around and talked until it got darker, then it was time to say goodbye to my Aunt, Uncle, and two Cousins. It was hard, but we had to eventually do it. After they left, we all went to bed. I remember laying there, thinking that it would be a very long time before I saw my Aunt, Uncle, and two Cousins again, and my assumptions were right, because I still haven’t seen them since that trip from

Becoming an adult is a momentous occasion in any young person’s life, but often it is marked by pain and hardships that push us as individuals to earn our autonomy and personal voice. There was an event in my life which pushed me to stand up to my parents and ultimately become an individual in their eyes. Life as a homeschooler was somewhat isolated until the end of my eighth-grade year. It was a damaging environment because of the constant interaction with my mother who was extremely critical and often lost her temper. The feeling that I could never please her overwhelmed me and even when I went to public school her manipulation of myself and others climaxed.…

Something in me has always known that I was not typical. In this generation, the typical person would graduate high school and then go on to pursue a two to four year college degree. Up until a few months ago, that was what I thought I was going to do. I thought that I was going to go to a private college somewhere, major in law, come out to be a defense attorney, and spend my days and nights hauled up in a courtroom somewhere. I believed that that was going to be my reality not because I wanted it to be but because I thought it had to be.…
