Life's Greatest Miracle Essay

Mental health is important for every human being in this planet. The way a person has relationships with other people such as, at school, a job or even one caring for ones own child will be affected based on the mental health of their own being. In the documentary Life’s Greatest Miracle the parents Sergio and Melinda were expecting a baby. They spoke about how they want to have a lot of kids, Sergio wants four or five, but Melinda told him to start off with one first and see how it will off from there. They were planning on having a baby two years later from the time she became pregnant. During lecture three, we spoke about pregnancy intention. Parents fell into different categories depending on a few factors. The category Sergio and Melinda belong in is the “Unintended, wanted, slightly mistimed (2 years or less).” In the documentary they did not mention much about trying to not become pregnant, but they did mention wanting to have a baby later on. The level of happiness about the pregnancy was high for both the father and mother, which is a great thing— meaning they should have an easier time adjusting to being parents to a newborn baby. These can be failing to have a support group, having a mental illness or not wanting the baby at all. If parents do no have a support group, such as family, primary doctors or even friends, then they will struggle to reach out for help when needed. Being a single parent can cause great difficulty adjusting to parenting. Being an only father or mother can create issues on the mental health for both child and parent. Having a support group as a single parent is a major need because they will need to reach out for help to someone whenever they encounter an obstacle with a baby.
