Great people had to start somewhere, and my Father, Michael, is no shortage to being the greatest man I 've ever met. He 's a skinny built man, with a hearty belly full of all the deep laughs he stores. He stands about 5 foot 10 but if you ask him he 'll say he 's 6 feet tall. His chocolate brown skin glows from within, and his shiny bald head could blind you if he hit 's the light just right. Most people won 't get past his quiet demeanor but he 's much more than what he lets you in on. Born in Leicester, England on April 29th, 1957 he started out his life with a complicated relationship with his parents and then being shipped off to Barbados for a better life. He was faced with many challenges along the way, as well as adapting to his new life in America when he leaves everything he once knew behind. …show more content…

Every thought that could possibly run through a 6 years old head at the time of uncertainty ran through his but he was still hopeful of what could come out of his new life in Barbados. In my dad 's words, "Barbados is hot and humid 99% of the time, which I 'm sure that 's the only thing that will always stay the same" If you were to look on a map with a naked eye, you 'd probably have a hard time locating the country. Barbados sits in the southern Caribbean near Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It 's shaped like a boot and sticks out like a sore thumb since it 's the furthest east island when looking at the Caribbean as a whole. The move to Barbados was relatively easy for my dad. He was young, and friends were easily made since he still had his English accent, which was

Near the climax of the story, Frank and Graham are out having dinner together. Graham has already put up with several embarrassing instances and Frank is in denial that his son is frustrated, annoyed, or angry with him. I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

November 10th, 2015 was the day my father, the strongest individual I know, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in his esophagus. The day he found out my loved ones immediately called a family meeting. Most of the conversation was a fog. I was just trying to comprehend the fact that my what I thought, perfectly healthy father, was diagnosed with six months to live. It was immensely difficult for me to process the fact that there were little cancerous tumors covering my father 's vital organs.…
