It crippled me socially, withdrawing from any social norms or culture I could, and neglecting the group mentality of fitting in while embracing the lonely lifestyle of a hermit. As time went on and counselor after counselor, I began to realize that the reaction I was having to this traumatic event was well within the realm of how most people would react to this event.
Now as for the agents of socialization that has had the greatest effect on me, would have to be my family hands down and the media. Through all the hard times my main family has always been there for me, comforting and pushing me forward in life. You see though my father was never there I had many aunts, uncles and a crazy cool mom who always made sure to show me the basics of life. These people were my primary group throughout most of my young life, and are the ones who made up the cultural mindset I have today. A good example; my uncle Mark was the first to let me know what respect was who to respect and how important of a role it plays in our society.
