The Greatest Generation Analysis

Many Americans heard the call. Many Americas stood tall. All gave some. Some gave all. Sacrifices made by the men and women serving our nation on the frontlines of battlefields around the world and at home earned them the name, “The Greatest Generation”. This name was bestowed upon them for their unrelenting patriotism. I am referring to the men and women of the WW II era who braved dangers and performed deeds to defend the US Constitution and the American way of life. They accepted risks not for fame, but to preserve our freedoms. These were the heroes of my great-grandfather’s generation. The immortalized words that are inscribed on the bronze, Iwo Jima memorial statue, accurately describe these noble heroes, “Uncommon Valor was a Common Virtue.”
Fast forward time a few years and once again heroes were produced as differences and conflicts arose in the world. Heroes traversed their way through the jungles of Vietnam. Heroes made their glowing appearance on the USS Cole, and they also proved their mettle in the stairwells of the Twin Towers. Most of the valiant deeds occur during times of war, but not always. A hero is the one who rescues a lost child from the kidnapper. A hero is the one who speaks up when a teenager is being bullied. A hero is the one who pulls a near-drowning victim from a lake. A hero is the one who saves an elderly person from a burning building. A hero is not a bystander, but one who voluntarily answers the call to right an injustice.
