The first reason the benefits of the Great Wall outweigh the costs is trade increased. For example, many imports from many other nations were brought into China (Document D). Due to the construction of the wall, China received more goods from a greater amount of dynasties and nations, furthering their supply of helpful resources like medicine, whereas prior to building the great wall, China wasn’t this exposed to these goods. In addition, Silk Road trade increased after building the wall (Document D). After the wall was built, trade made on the Silk Road went up which is very significant since it was a large trade route, which meant it was a primary trade resource while before construction, trade wasn’t big compared to post construction since…

Because of the wall's association with the First Emperor's supposed tyranny, the Chinese dynasties after Qin usually avoided referring to their own additions to the wall by the name "Long Wall".[14] Instead, various terms were used in medieval records, including "frontier(s)" (塞, sāi),[15] "rampart(s)" (垣, yuán),[15] "barrier(s)" (障, zhàng),[15] "the outer fortresses" (外堡, wàibǎo),[16] and "the border wall(s)" (t 邊牆, s 边墙, biānqiáng).[14] Poetic and informal names for the wall included "the Purple Frontier" (紫塞, Zǐsāi)[17] and "the Earth Dragon" (t 土龍, s 土龙, Tǔlóng).[18] Only during the Qing period did "Long Wall" become the catch-all term to refer to the many border walls regardless of their location or dynastic origin, equivalent to the English "Great Wall".[19] The current English name evolved from accounts of "the Chinese wall" from early modern European travelers.[19] By the 19th century,[19] "The Great Wall of China" had become standard in English, French, and German, although other European languages continued to refer to it as "the Chinese…

After World War II, Germany was divided into four parts: the West was controlled by the US, Great Britain and France, and the East was under the control of the USSR. These four countries were allies during World War II and fought against the fascist countries of Japan, Germany and Italy. When the war ended and Germany was divided into four parts, the USSR and the US started the political, economical and military “race” known as the Cold War from 1945 to 1989. The division of Europe from the Baltic Sea in the north to the Balkan Peninsula in the South is famously called the Iron Curtain, and it exemplifies the political differences between France, Great Britain and the US had with the USSR before the Berlin Wall was raised; although the territory…

Throughout these many years, I am born during the year that claims me to be a millennial child; a millennial is someone who is approximately born around early 1980s to early 2000s. I have experienced the uprising of technology, diversity, and the exploration of art for the masses. As an art major I have been to various galleries and seen various arts through media and the affects it has on consumerism. However, this discussion draws my attention to The Great Wall of Los Angeles in relation to Judith Baca’s work on it. Made during the summers in the late 1970s and finishing around early 1980s ; it was a project that most likely will not have an ending and will continue to be a project passed down to the youths and artists of the future.…
