Throughout history spanning from the Egyptians to the Middle Ages, all cultures have a different and distinct view on the representation of power through architecture and artworks. The six architectures/artworks that best describes their cultures view of power is The Great Pyramids, Parthenon, Augustus of prima porta, Hagia Sophia, Lindau Gospel bible, and the Notre Dame Church.
The Great Pyramids were created by the Egyptians in 2551 – 2472 BC. The Great Pyramids were based on the Egyptian knowledge on the cosmos of the earth; the pyramids were to represent the ben ben stone which is the mound of creation and it also pays homage to the ultimate god in Egyptian culture the sun god Ra. The pyramids demonstrate the culture’s view of power, because it represents how the creation of the world and it respects their most powerful god. Augustus was the first emperor of the Roman republic and his cuirass statue was made in the early 1st century. Augustus is an image of power for several reasons, He is in official military uniform and he stance is suggesting that he is commanding soldiers which radiates confidence and strength. On his cuirass statue, tells the story of the return of the roman standards by the Parthians; His cuirass has his greatest victory on his chest. Just like the Greeks, the romans glorified militarism and battle ferocity. He also has an erote hanging off him which establishes his ties to the goddess Venus.
