The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis. This pyramid was functioned as a royal funerary edifice for Khufu, the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh in the Middle kingdom, between 2589 and 2504 BC. When I travelled there, locals in Cairo told me that the location of the great pyramids of Giza is very unique. It not only faces true north but also precisely aligns with the Pyramid of Menkaure and the Pyramid of Khafre in the Constellation of Orion. This fact revealed their ancient ancestors’ obsession and high achievements in the movement of celestial body. Besides the advanced development in astronomy, ancient Egyptians’ engineering knowledge about right angle or orthogonal triangle developed progressively as well. The accumulation of the engineering and astronomical knowledge became the foundation for the construction of this monument.

According to what locals told me, the Nile River gave birth to the immortal civilization of the Egyptians, and ancient Egypt architecture never would have become such prosperous had it not been for the Nile River. Due to the enough supply of water, ancient Egypt became the first country that civilians could acquire enough food without the all-day-long working of farmers. During the flood period lasting 3-4 months each year, ancient Egyptians lent their work to build pyramids.
