Known as the “Great Imitator” for its ability to mimic other diseases, Lyme disease can be a common but deadly infection. Caused by the bacterium Borrelia Burdoferi, the disease is transmitted to humans from infected deer ticks and black legged ticks. The Lyme disease bacteria are passed through a cycle involving ticks and mice. Once the mouse is infected it can spread to deer ticks that can infect other animals, as well as humans (CDC, 2015).
