I started this writing process by reading through the literary criticism packet we received in class and attempting to choose a lens. Originally, I wished to conduct my research through a feminist lens, but overtime my ideas evolved and I changed lenses completely. I began research using the Bloom Databases and found many insightful articles describing social class. Since I could find so much information on social class, I felt that this would be a good topic to choose, however on its own it felt too boring. When I read an article discussing the use of flowers in The Great Gatsby, I decided to pull these two subjects together into one solid thesis.
