Weather creates an atmosphere in a story, making it depressing or happy. In The Great Gatsby, Nick schedules a meeting for Daisy and Gatsby. During this scene, it starts pouring rain, which to me, shows that there is much more drama in store. I interpreted the rain as a sign of their obvious tension. Nick later leaves the two alone so they can reconnect, and by the time he returns, the two are having a great time together. The rain has stopped by then and the sun is out.
