In chapter 1, Nick explains his past the reader by talking about how he moved to the West egg which is a less fashionable area of New York. He introduces his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom to the reader. Daisy has all the riches in the world because Tom Buchanan is very powerful and rich. Although when Nick goes to their house for dinner he notices that Daisy was sad but concealing this with the beauty of her face. Scott Fitzgerald utilizes the paradox conveying that although she is sad, she talks with an excitement that no man could forget. This portrays that although one may have money, wealth, and a pretty face they may still not find their true happiness. Daisy has adjusted to her surroundings by learning to suppress her true feelings
