Love is a very prominent factor in The Great Gatsby. So significant in the fact that it is the very thing that practically drives every single character. Love roots from the American Dream and has many different variations. This movie does an excellent job of staying true to each variety that is put on display in the book. He has everything wants to have and is everything everybody wants to be. Gatsby built his way up from poverty. He was able to take poverty by the horns and flip it upside down. In the article “Paradox and Dream” John Steinbeck says “ we have inherited self-sufficiency and the ability to take care of ourselves”. Gatsby was able to do exactly that. Being born into poverty does not nullify the ability to be self sufficient, seeing that, Gatsby broke the mold and went for that brass ring.
