Nick Carraway Nick Carraway is the main protagonist in The Great Gatsby. Nick is a stockbroker in New York City and lives in West Egg, Long Island. Nick fought in the First World War and attend New Haven University with Tom Buchanan. Nick is Daisy Buchanan's cousin and a close Friend of Jay Gatsby. Quote No.1:””Whenever you feel like criticizing any one”, he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.””(1) Response No.1: This quote shows that Nick has an open mind, he looks at all the facts before he makes a judgment of people. Ironically enough he makes quite a few judgments of people throughout the novel. Myrtle had an affair with Tom Buchanan before her untimely death, Myrtle was struck and killed by a car driven by Daisy Buchanan.
