In the first paragraph, Gatsby continues to have the desires to repeat and retain his relationship with Daisy although, the past will never be forgotten but it cannot repeat itself again. For Gatsby to attain her would be allowing Gatsby to complete his American Dream. The American dream is based on the key of happiness however, his pursuit of happiness fails. “He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and, far as I was from him, I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, months and far away, that might have been at the end of a dock.” The quote resembles something that is so close but yet, so far away to achieve his happiness therefore, it shows a great way of describing Gatsby’s American Dream. After five years, Daisy and Gatsby meet for the first time, they fall in love with each other once again although, Daisy is known as a wealthy and upper class society, where Gatsby lacks that. The one major conflict that inflicted Gatsby to his achieve his dream is Daisy’s husband, Tom Buchanan. The American dream is the declaration of independence which states that “all man are created equal and that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty and pursuit of happiness”. The Declaration of Independence was to bring hope to other individuals and to bring a change within their society. During the 1920’s, the views of other changed in becoming more about materialism and selfish pursuit of pleasure. Individuals try to thrive for the same rights and equality although people are judging based on their different social classes through poor or rich. The declaration of independence has been ignored; the wealthy individuals treat others poorly and misunderstood from the world they to live in. The West and East Egg play an important role which act as a symbolism within the novel. The author entails that people are still not treated quickly and that social discrimination still exists, where people do not put a stop to this social implications. An example is found within the novel is when Tom and Wilson negotiation when Wilson wants to resell Tom’s old car. Tom clearly wants to keep his affair with Myrtle and as a result he does not allow Wilson to resell it. Money doesn't buy us happiness. We would like to believe that money is one thing
