Narration by definition means how an author chooses to convey essential information to readers in their work. Authors get to play in how they tell their story, because of this their actions have a clear effect on the readers view of the story. By doing so Fitzgerald achieves this effect that the readers experience the same unknowing of other character’s thoughts and get pushed cleanly through the plot. Nick is nether more than another plain character in this unfolding tragedy, where readers never get to enter other characters minds, because of this other characters thoughts and opinions are completely in the dark to the reader. Readers are simply left to use their imaginations to what the other characters are thinking. A good example for this is when Gatsby announces: “ Im going to make a big request of you today, so i thought you ought to know something about me. I didn't want you to think I was just some nobody. You see, I usually find myself among strangers because I drift here and there trying to forget the sad thing that happened to me. You'll hear about it this Afternoon”. (Page 67). This forms a prime example of when Fitzgerald’s choice gives the story depth, suspense and gives the readers another reason to keep the pages turning.
