The Great Gatsby, a historical novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Initially had mixed reviews. The New York Times called this novel a “glorified anecdote” While others considered it minor work. Fitzgerald claimed she only earned $4,000 off of this novel. Unfortunately, she passed 15 years after the publishing of her book in 1940 of a heart attack before she could see the popularity of her book skyrocket during the sixties. In this time the book became an important part of high school literature and 50 years later, in 2013, The Great Gatsby Movie was released. With the popularity of the novel, it's only natural the movie would get the same amount of rage. Though, there are still mixed reviews due to the accuracy of the movie to the 1920s.
