Fitzgerald associates Nick with being a real honest person, that is at least how he seems to us, but is he really honest?
The first time Nick talks about himself as a honest person he says that, “I am one of the few honest people I have ever known”(64). That really shows how Nick thinks of himself as a honest person. He reflects that the world is full of liars and he really tries to not lie to himself.
He also seems to discern when people lie when he says”, “ I wondered if there wasn’t something a little sinister about him after all” (69) when Gatsby told him about him attending Oxford. It signifies that it really depresses but he does not confront him because he does not want to get in trouble with him. He already feels uncomfortable
