Dear Jay Gatsby.

As long as I have known you, you have always struck me as a stand-up person with a charismatic personality. You strike others as this ideal man and as someone who is the epitome of the American Dream. There are some crucial elements of life that you have failed to take full advantage of, or that you failed to reach, but one thing that defines your character very well is that you never give up on the things that you are determined to pursue. But although this aspect of your personality could be used to pursue great things and build an outstanding career and life, you chose to use it for the wrong reasons. The things you did in the war don’t completely cover up the illegal activity, but it does add some good reputation to your character and heroism. The heroics in the war, even when it seems as if you’ve done bad things, build your good character and show that you care about others lives. Putting others' lives in front of yours is something that you show very well and continues to show when you are with Daisy. Also, the promotion to Major in the United States Army helped you tremendously and gave you the reputation you needed to make the connections that you have for your job. You met your good friend Nick during the war and it allowed you to make a connection with him. Overall, the war was a great success for you and you benefited greatly from it. But the events after the war didn’t yield the same results. What I believe went wrong for you the most, and what has hindered your potential, is that you set your mind on Daisy Buchanan and refused to let go when you knew that you could not live the life you wanted with her. Your main motivation to get out of the war was to see her again and when you couldn’t, she realized that she couldn’t keep waiting on you, so she let go. The success that you could have had would have been more achievable if you had let go of chasing the dream of marrying her. Also, you put on a fake identity to try to make Daisy choose you over Tom. People started to realize that you weren’t telling the truth about your past and became skeptical of what you actually accomplished and how you came to the end. You became this man of concealed mystery and obscure personality. You have hidden your true identity behind Jay Gatsby in an attempt to impress a woman whose heart was lost and was unable to be reached by you a long time ago.
