The Great Gatsby Dishonest Analysis

Tom Buchanan ideas are confusing for a reader of the novel. He says that he loves Daisy; however he is often unfaithful towards her. Thus, I believe that Tom is a person who does not truly love Daisy. Both Tom and Daisy are considered dishonest, and when he called out Daisy and Gatsby’s affair he is hypocritical. When Tom was with his mistress, Myrtle, they got into an impassioned conversation, during this discussion Myrtle started shouting Daisy’s name. This caused Tom to get fierce and ended up him making a brutal blow to her nose causing it break. This shows that he does not love her as he would not be in that situation if he had been loyal in the first place and have gone off on a “spree”. If Tom did not sleep with Myrtle in the first place she would not have recognized the yellow car that in which she thought Tom was in earlier that day, and eventually she got ran over by Daisy. …show more content…
Moreover, marriage in the nineteen-twenties can be described as an amusing relationship where infidelity is acceptable, and people marry in order to gain money or status among society. Daisy’s and Tom’s marriage is a typical marriage in that era, as both partners cheat. Daisy may have married Tom to have a luxurious lifestyle, but Tom also marries for the wrong reasons as he uses Daisy’s beauty as a symbol of status. Tom treats daisy more a possession than an actual person, and therefore she does not have any feeling or he just does not care for them. This being said Tom does not truly love her because he has affairs even though she knows about them and treat her as a possession not as a lover, this justifies that he does not truly love
