1. " 'There- that's long enough,' said she, though without pulling it away. 'But I suppose you are thinking you would like to kiss it? You may if you want to.' " (Hardy 40)
This quote was Bathsheba Everdene's in Chapter 3. It was said after she had saved Gabriel's life and he then held her hand. Her saying gave readers a clue that she was slightly interested in him. A girl wouldn't allow someone who wasn't dear to her to hold her hand long unless she had some feelings or interest in him. Not only that, she even hinted him to kiss her hand. This showed that there was definitely something going on in her's affection for him. This quote is significant because it proves that Bathsheba had liked Gabriel, which was an important element in

In addition, that thought revealed society's view for a woman in that time period - was considered men's belongings. The first quote I chose was, “I bought a dozen volumes on banking and credit and investment securities, and they stood on my shelf in red and gold like new money from the mint.” This quote is when Nick is explaining his house and talks about how he has books on the shelves on investments and other things. He says that they stood there like new money from the mint. The reason this is, is because he wishes to become rich on his own and make more money by himself. It also explains to us that he is a very ambitious person because he wants to make a name for himself and succeed in life.…

Heaven had joked at one point and shouted at the Rev Tree such as haven't you maxed out the turd yet?…

Dawn broke to an explosion of bird songs, the cacophony starting Booker awake with a disgruntled groan. Unimpressed by the early morning alarm clock, he angrily pulled his pillow over his head and attempted to drown out the noise. However, the humorous fact that the sound easily penetrated through the downy feathers brought a good-natured smile to his lips, and with a resigned sigh, he threw the pillow onto the floor and sat up. From across the room, Tom yawned loudly, a sleepy smile spreading across his face.…

Front: On the front of my Gatsby T-shirt I have an old white car because Gatsby has one. This would bring Daisy to tears because back when Gatsby and Daisy were together, they were caught sitting in a car giving intimate looks to each other. I believe this would make Daisy cry because it would remind her of old times and revitalize her affection for Gatsby. I also have fireworks because they symbolize the celebration Gatsby had every weekend at his mansion.…

It is also precious in the sense that you must handle your life with care, place as much value on your life as you would with your greatest treasure and let it not be wasted on religion. I interpreted this poem as a collection of thoughts being read aloud to a friend. The image I imagined was Mary Oliver having a deep conversation about her thoughts about life. As I read the poem aloud and instantly thought the author was being very inquisitive and asking a round of questions whose only answer was by asking another question. The author uses anaphora in the first three lines when she repeats “who made the...”…

The past and the present can often be at a constant struggle within individuals and lead to moral confusion and conflict with each other. As the past teaches one thing and the present another, the concept of right or wrong is broken and the idea that both must be embraced is not realized. The novel, The Great Gatsby, by F.Scott Fitzgerald, utilizes numerous elements and literary devices to portray many different themes and topics. Using these, he portrays the struggle between the past and the present. Specifically, Fitzgerald utilizes foreshadow to show us that certain events or conversations hold deeper meaning, relating a future event to a characters past and their struggle through their decisions.…

The first two lines are repeated again in lines 83 and 84 further asserting on this fact. Elizabeth Dodd supports the example, as she wrote: “…she declares everything she has lost is due to his "arrogance" and "ruthlessness."” Another point worth mentioning in aspect to the theme is the slight wave of feminism, which roughly commenced around the same time as modernism. The example above supports the statement and the following further emphasises on it: “At least I have the flowers of myself, / and my thoughts, no god / can take that;” (125-127). It is interesting to note that she speaks of a god and not a goddess, implying the male dominance.…

The major conflict that takes place throughout The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is Mr. Gatsby himself trying to win over the love of his life Daisy Buchanan, even though she is married herself and he lets nothing get in his way of that. To start off, Gatsby buys an extremely lavish mansion in West Egg, that is directly located across the bay of Daisy 's home, in East Egg. While Nick himself lives next door to Gatsby, once he arrives back into town for the summer, he goes to East Egg to visit his cousin Daisy and meets her friend Jordan Baker. Jordan remarks that Nick must know Gatsby, while Daisy states, “Gatsby, what Gatsby?” (Fitzgerald 11).…
