The Great Gatsby Daisy

“The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.” This is a quote from a book I have read. A book about a man named Jay Gatsby and his companion, Mr. Nick Carraway. The genre of this book lies somewhat under the genre of realistic fiction and historical fiction in some ways. F Scott Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby, magically created this story into something unimaginable. Nick Carraway is a native of the midwest who travels to New York in 1922 in search of the American Dream. Nick, a future writer, moves next door to multimillionaire Jay Gatsby and across the bay from his cousin Daisy Buchanan and her unfaithful husband Tom. Nick is quickly drawn …show more content…
It was revealed toward the end of the story that Jay Gatsby was Daisy’s lover before he went to war. When he got caught up in the war and couldn’t come back to Daisy and marry her as planned, she instead married Tom Buchanan who was much wealthier than him. When he got back from the war and learned that Daisy hadn’t waited for him, he was determined to earn her love back by making a name for himself. He threw parties every weekend in hope of Daisy coming to the party and reuniting with him. However, Tom didn’t want to lose control of Daisy despite him having an affair with another woman. So, in order to keep Daisy away from Gatsby, he set Gatsby up and had him murdered. Daisy and Gatsby escaped from Tom’s home in a rush one night and drove away to be together with Tom on their tail. Daisy was driving and got caught up in the momentum and accidentally ran over a man’s wife in the streets. Tom arrives at the scene soon after Gatsby and Daisy had drove past the site. As he fights his way through the crowd he finds that the woman that was killed was the same woman he was having an affair with. Tom took this opportunity to set up Gatsby and put an end to Gatsby’s communication with Daisy. Tom convinced the woman’s husband that a man by the name of Gatsby had ran over his wife and that if he wanted to take any action, he should kill Gatsby himself which, according to Tom, would do …show more content…
I felt the same way Nick did after Gatsby died. Him coming to New York was a failure. He came in search of the American dream and ended up nowhere where nobody could help him or support him in getting back on his feet. The stock market crashed and he slowly felt depressed. I compared his situation to my stress with school and grades. If I am having trouble with assignments or worried about a grade, I often feel depressed and feel like it would take me a long time to get myself going again. I also could connect to Gatsby because when he was determined to get back together with Daisy he wasn’t going to let anything get in their way, especially Tom. However, his patience didn’t with Daisy didn’t help. I felt the same way that he did, when I put my mind to something I was determined to carry it out no matter what. He also was positive and trusted Daisy with clearing both of their names. However, Daisy trusted Tom but Gatsby didn’t trust Tom. He trusted Daisy but he didn’t trust the devil inside Tom. He made a mistake trusting Daisy for everything. I connected to Gatsby because I have gone through experiences in which I have trusted friends with helping me carry out a task too much and it resulted in chaos. That is how I personally connected to the story and

Nick narrates Gatsby's pursuit of rekindling an old relationship with Daisy Buchanan and achieving his concept of the ideal life. Nick describes Gatsby during one encounter as, "pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets... standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes." (91) Given this pail, ghostly image of Gatsby, the reader is likely to associate Gatsby with feebleness and tragedy.
