The Great Gatsby Chapter 11 Analysis

At chapter eleven, it demonstrates how Jenny’s pregnancy is moving along smoothly. John and Jenny wanted to keep the pregnancy a secret from family and friends because they wanted to make sure that there wouldn’t be another miscarriage. To try and influence people that she wasn’t actually pregnant, she drank grape juice rather than wine in front of her guests. As Jenny progresses through the pregnancy, John continues to make progress disciplining and training Marley until it went downhill when he decided to eat Jenny’s jewelry. John decided to surprise Jenny with a new necklace, and left it on the table for her so she can see it when she comes downstairs, but Marley decided to jump on the table and swallow it. After a couple of days of washing off Marley’s droppings to see if he disposed the necklace, John finally found the necklace without any damage, and Jenny was thrilled that it was found in the long run.

One time, when Jenny became very hungry, John took Marley for a walk to the grocery store when a reoccurring event of a prostitute looking to make money approached them which proved the point that the town was starting to get worst and is not appropriate for them and their children. To show how much the neighborhood has changed when Jenny and Patrick fell asleep one night, John heard a scary scream from outside their home, and as soon as that happened Marley and him ran outside to find their young neighbor got stabbed in the ribcage. As they saw them on the ground, John and Marley waited for the ambulance to arrive and as they waited Marley stood there protecting the neighbor. The conclusion of the chapter is John checking up on the neighbor and seeing signs of improvement and her doing a lot
