“I hope she’ll be a fool. That’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” The award winning book and film that has been produced and showed in theaters twice, The Great Gatsby. The movie that will be described is the most recent one that was shown in 2013. The movie takes place during the roaring 20’s around the outskirts of New York. The main characters are as follows: Tom Buchanan, Daisy Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, Nick Caraway (narrator), Jordan Baker, Myrtle Wilson, and George Wilson. Nick Caraway finds himself living next to the famous Gatsby who threw countless amounts of parties, but no one ever knew why. The endless amounts of parties is what brought Nick and Gatsby together at last. Nick was told, he had to …show more content…
Leonardo DiCaprio is the main character in the movie (Gatsby), all of his emotions can be told with his face in a matter of seconds of just looking at him. The director made sure to put the right music with his emotions. In doing that the director helps the audience comprehend how or what mood he is in before he even says one word. Once one word even comes out of his mouth everyone already knows what his actions are going to be like. For example, whenever he is meeting Daisy again, he shows signs of nervousness and his facial expressions show he is not ready to meet her, although when they both come face to face with each other the whole room turns quiet and it’s as if the world just stopped for second and they were the only ones alive. Later on in the movie, Daisy begins to spend her days with Gatsby and now Gatsby isn 't much of a conservative person but more of a “showing his face more” and not being so to himself. His happiness comes about. Sadly, the director takes a 180 turn and everything goes down hill after they began spending time together, once the director takes that turn, the whole movie just seems to turn dark and not entertaining anymore. The entertainment begins to stop once Myrtle is hit by the car that Daisy was driving. The whole movie just turns …show more content…
The movie should have not been so gloomy at the end, and the exaggeration should have not been to it’s highest extent. Over all the movie is magnificent excluding some parts that just were not necessary. Leonardo DiCaprio depicts Jay Gatsby perfectly in every way including his appearance, description of what you 'd think he looks like (in the book) and his emotions. Everything that could 've been imagined of an actor for this role, he did it. He was the perfect candidate for this role and did the best job. Tobey McGwire as narrator and Nick Caraway also did a tremendous job with the narration. He was so passive about the way he expressed his words and adding in quotes from the book made the movie even better. The way the director would put those quotes in there as if they were being written on a book also made a great impact on the movie. Every movie has their imperfections but, overall this movie is great and should be classified as a classic

The Greater Great Gatsby The book the Great Gatsby has been depicted by lots of films, but the two that stand out the most are the 1974 and the 2013 versions. The1974 movie has strengths and weaknesses when comparing it to the book as does the 2013 version. Analyzing each movie and closely examining its connection to the book took some time. Finally the 1974 movie is a more noteworthy adaptation of the book then the 2013, in that this version was better at keeping the essence of the characters and conveying F. Scott Fitzgerald 's purpose in the writing the novel.…

Some examples; In the book Nick meets Tom at his door and in the movie, Nick meets Tom at the dock and they are driven to Tom’s house. In the book, Gatsby has a relationship with a self-made millionaire, Dan Cody and in the movie this character is completely left out. Also, in the book the man who Nick refers to as “Owl Eyes” who he sees at one of Gatsby’s parties. He later drives his car into a ditch and in the movie, “Owl Eyes” doesn’t appear or is mentioned once.…

The two films, Midnight in Paris and The Great Gatsby, are effective to the novel because their characters parallel each other and they have similar concepts in both stories. However, the more effective movie was The Great Gatsby movie since it does represent the novel. In the movie, it has some real scenes that would have happened when it played out in anyone’s head and made it come to life. To make a book into a movie, it is not always accurate and not as straightforward to how it plays out because the director wanted the audience to feel all many emotions during the movie to make it “great”. Therefore, the director tweaked or changed some scenes to add for more action during the movie than the book.…

Two books have been inspirational pavers in how I see the world and how I want to improve it. These books are very different in the content that they portray but similar in their themes of perception. The first book that has developed me as a person is “The Great Gatsby.” A second book is “To Kill A Mockingbird.” Without these books the evolvement of my understandings would be weaker than they are now.…

There is an abundance of evidence throughout the book as to why Jay Gatsby is not so great. He cheated his way to the top through bootlegging and making business deals with criminals, and most important, he wanted to be great for someone else—not himself. If using the actual definition of great while analyzing the controversial topics of the book, it’s clear that Gatsby really wasn’t that great. “‘He’s a bootlegger,’ said the young ladies, moving somewhere between his cocktails and his flowers. ‘One time he killed a man who had found out that he was nephew to Von Hindenburg and second cousin to the devil.…

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT The main character that watched all of the drama surrounding him unfold is Nick Carraway. He is a kind of simple, humble man from the Midwest that enjoys the richness of his new surroundings on Long Island at first but soon realizes that it isn’t all he thought it out to be. Nick is mostly in the background of what is happening before him but he is an integral part of the story as he retells it in a different way than how Gatsby or Tom or any other character would retell it. He is observant and somewhat unbiased as he describes the events taking place.…

Human beings are made to have their own personal views on different ideologies and practices; no one ideology can fight against all other views and say that factually and morally their way of viewing things in life is the only right way. Through the use of characters like Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, Tom and Daisy Buchanan and many more other characters. The Great Gatsby is a story of the defeated love between a man and a woman.…

Films that are adaptations of novels at times leave out important things that made the novel so special, and in return the film ends up as a poor portrayal of the story. In the novel The Great Gatsby, Scott Fitzgerald devotes a considerable amount of attention to build up the relationship between Nick Carraway and Jordan baker, as well as providing Nick Carraway the ability to have more freedom in the way he expresses his thoughts and feelings. These concepts shift in the scene from the film directed by Baz Luhrmann, as it does not portray the intimate relationship between Nick Carraway and Jordan Baker. The main focus of the film is Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, and because of that, it does not allow for another romance in the story. The film 's restraint of time also damages its ability to express the thoughts and feelings of the characters, specifically Nick Carraway.…

The main characters in this film have very different roles, however never having watched Great Gatsby before I’d say the actors and actresses have portrayed their roles successfully. Tobey Maguire portrays his role as this shy yet curious man that with no real emotion. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a wealthy man that lives each day hoping for the love of his life to return to him. Leo’s posture and confident smile creates this character that cares only for some, but when he cares, he cares with his whole heart. Carey Mulligan plays a rich girl that wants what’s best for her.…

This idea is not only present in our lives, as modern day teenagers, but also in the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby. Throughout the novel Gatsby exhibits this idea of expecting the best out of a situation, and unfortunately as we can all relate to the fact that this rarely ever happens. Director Baz Luhrman’s 2013 remake of The Great Gatsby not only focuses on the chasms between the newly rich and the old money of New York, but also the struggles the characters experience as their secrets are exposed to those around them. The early scenes in The Great Gatsby where Tom’s mistress is revealed to Nick when he is at dinner with the Buchanans and Jordan Baker (9:45-11:03), and the following discussion between Daisy and Nick over her wishes for her daughter’s future and her personal bitterness towards the world (11:03-12:39), highlight an overarching theme of the film which is that all of the characters have deeper, darker secrets than what they portray to those around them. By using specific care with the mise-en-scène and montage…
