In this instance, Daisy realizes that Gatsby’s destruction of his American Dream is his extreme growth of wealth through his sheer linen and thick silk shirts. Gatsby’s greed of wealth and desire for Daisy Buchanan destroyed and corrupted his American Dream. According to Tunc, “[Gatsby] cannot confront the fact that [Daisy] would never abandon her family to be with him, and refuses to acknowledge Tom and Pammy, for to do so would extinguish the nostalgic flame of their romance…In the end, Gatsby becomes Daisy’s victim of the American Dream” (Tunc). Gatsby has unrealistic fantasy plans for Daisy and himself.
