Life is not only about love, dreams, diamonds, champagne, and luxury cars, but also the tiny little louse called fate that are biting you whenever you are satisfied with what you’ve already owned in that period. Gatsby, one of those rich gentlemen in New York, came back from where he didn’t want to mention and to be known. Yet he have had everything he thought he could catch Daisy’s love again, the only thing he don’t have was so called his “blood” as Tom Buchanan said. He is the outsider who are initially excluded from the upper class in New York. However, in Nick’s eyes, Gatsby is the men with his hope who is questioning the careless and cold blood society at that period. Gatsby is rich while he owns a poor early life; therefore, he is naturally nervous while he is being with those real upper-class person. Leonardo do shows this emotion in the movie. When Gatsby first meet Tom Buchanan, Leonardo shows the character’s nervous by avoiding eye contact while shaking hands and greeting, which I think it is easier to let audience know how Gatsby’s opinion towards those people who are born with elegance. Gatsby deeply knows no matter how much fortune he owns, there is always a fundamental difference between those upper-class persons and himself: their disparate family background. That’s what the story is always indicating as a potential conflict. In the 2013 version, this conflict is presented more directly and obviously. When Gatsby in the suite arguing with Tom for Daisy, Leonardo presents Gatsby’s intense anger while he is ignored and hurt again and again by being judged by his early background, then he bursts out and wants to beat Tom Buchanan. Through Leonardo’s convulsive and twisty facial expression and his violent behavior, we can tell how Gatsby is deeply depressed inside his heart, his helplessness about the hierarchy gap. I think that’s also what the author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, wants to show …show more content…
In the end of the movie, Gatsby tells the truth of his background and how his love for Daisy pushes him to struggle for a better future. Nick thinks Gatsby is an optimistic man full of hope who believes in himself for changing the bad situation. All Gatsby does: holding parties, selling bootleg wines is for meet Daisy again. Under this premise, Gatsby is not a coward muttering his fake background anymore, but is a hero of love. The movie also spend more times than the previous version on talking about the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy, making audience paying their attention to it. At the end of the movie, Nick’s attitude towards the people in the City of New York shifts to be repugnant, since they all misunderstanding Gatsby’s heart. The latest version poetizes the power of love and hope, which makes Nick compliment Gatsby. He is a courage man not afraid to use his hands to change his life, that’s what the author also want us to

The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a mysterious character named Gatsby that the protagonist, Nick Carraway, slowly gets to know and befriend. The characters in the book are all very odd and interesting with their own personal backgrounds that make them very relatable in their own respective ways. I believe that out of all the unique personalities, I can relate the most with Nick’s because of his many facets such as his openness and honesty towards others, while also being humble, accepting and tolerant. I think that one of Nick's conflicts is that he tries to please everyone at the same time. Originally, Nick went to Tom Buchanan’s house to see his cousin Daisy after being separated for so long.…

Although it is debatable whether F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby, is truly one of the greatest novels of American literature, one thing remains certain: the classic novel is infused with a multitude of sententious statements that touch the hearts and minds of readers even to this day. Among the countless meaningful quotes the novel has to offer, there is one in particular that continues to echo not only in the mind but throughout time. This statement is none other than the closing line of the novel, as narrator Nick Carraway reflects to himself that “...It [the orgastic future that lays before us] eludes us then, but that’s no matter... So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past” (ch.9,…

The Greater Great Gatsby The book the Great Gatsby has been depicted by lots of films, but the two that stand out the most are the 1974 and the 2013 versions. The1974 movie has strengths and weaknesses when comparing it to the book as does the 2013 version. Analyzing each movie and closely examining its connection to the book took some time. Finally the 1974 movie is a more noteworthy adaptation of the book then the 2013, in that this version was better at keeping the essence of the characters and conveying F. Scott Fitzgerald 's purpose in the writing the novel.…

What made Gatsby great in the eyes of Nick was his ability to self-invent and the way he was able to make his hopes and dreams into a reality. Ironically this can be described as Gatsby’s ability to make his American Dream real. In the novel, Gatsby imagines an identity for himself and is actually able to create that identity and becomes exactly what he wanted to be, a wealthy man. But his pursuit of wealth is the very thing that corrupted him. Gatsby was willing to do anything to gain the wealth and social position that was needed to win Daisy back.…

In the very beginning of the novel he says that “Only Gatsby… was exempt from my reaction- Gatsby, who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn”(2) when he was discussing his moral ideals. But he goes on further to say that he had “an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person”(2). Nick, throughout the novel, both heavily insulted and complimented Gatsby. We see through this that Nick always seemed to be unable to decide how he truly felt about Gatsby, and what he truly valued in life and in himself. Nick also stated, “Gatsby turned out alright at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men” (2).…
