Yet he have had everything he thought he could catch Daisy’s love again, the only thing he don’t have was so called his “blood” as Tom Buchanan said. Gatsby is rich while he owns a poor early life; therefore, he is naturally nervous while he is being with those real upper-class person. Leonardo do shows this emotion in the movie. When Gatsby first meet Tom Buchanan, Leonardo shows the character’s nervous by avoiding eye contact while shaking hands and greeting, which I think it is easier to let audience know how Gatsby’s opinion towards those people who are born with elegance. Gatsby deeply knows no matter how much fortune he owns, there is always a fundamental difference between those upper-class persons and himself: their disparate family background. That’s what the story is always indicating as a potential conflict. In the 2013 version, this conflict is presented more directly and obviously. When Gatsby in the suite arguing with Tom for Daisy, Leonardo presents Gatsby’s intense anger while he is ignored and hurt again and again by being judged by his early background, then he bursts out and wants to beat Tom Buchanan. Through Leonardo’s convulsive and twisty facial expression and his violent behavior, we can tell how Gatsby is deeply depressed inside his heart, his helplessness about the hierarchy gap.
