As Gatsby walked towards his pool with his mattress on his shoulder he heard a faint crunch of leaves, he looked and then he heard it once more and he yelled out “Who’s there?”. No answer, so then Gatsby stated, “If you don’t show yourself I’ll call the police, now who is there”. Out stepped Wilson with dried tears on his face and his gun pointed at Gatsby’s head. Gatsby put his hands up and asked “Who are you and why do you have a gun pointed at my head?”. Wilson then said, “Why did you do it, why did you have to go and kill my Myrtle? She never hurt nobody I mean sure she was cheating on me, but I loved her and you took her away from me”. Gatsby replied “No old sport, you have it all wrong, I didn’t kill her”

Gatsby killed my wife”. Nick replied in a calm soothing voice “calm down Wilson we don’t need to do anything that will affect our lives in a negative way as in one of us dying, now just listen to me --- I don’t want to hear it Nick, now either you can walk away or get rolled away in a body bag with a toe tag. ”Ok look Wilson I understand you’re upset but you need to calm down because I don’t like your tone”. Then Gatsby moved a little too fast for me and I pointed the gun back at him, and just as I moved my hand I heard a gun shot. Both Gatsby and Nick dropped, and so did my heart. I didn’t really think I could do it I wanted to scare him I didn’t want to hurt anyone, as I thought about this a tear slid down my face slowly. The only thing on my mind was that I had to get away I was murderer, it didn’t dawn on me that I only shot one bullet until I seen Gatsby get up slowly with his hands still up. A wave of relief went over my body and I just dropped down to me knees and began to cry. Gatsby followed by Nick came over to comfort me and remove the gun from my hands. “Give me the gun Wilson,” stated Nick. While still a little confused Gatsby helped me to sit in the chair. Then Gatsby said in a calm yet worried voice, “you know I didn’t kill your wife right? I know it was my car but I wasn’t the one driving

Selfish Love “…just tell him the truth – that you never loved him – and it’s all wiped out forever.” This was a quote from Jay Gatsby pleading Daisy Buchanan to declare that she never loved her husband, Tom Buchanan. In the novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, it’s very debatable who the most self-centered character of the story was. It could be Tom, who just used Daisy has a safety net for when his side relationships failed, or it could be Gatsby who wanted Daisy all to himself despite what it would do to her family. In the end, the presence of love creates a selfish person and although all the characters mentioned have been struck by love, Daisy Buchanan has portrayed the most self-centered acts.…

White, frozen snow lightly shuffled to the ground, covering the Earth like a large fluffy blanket.…

Gatsby is so infatuated with Daisy that he believes the end justifies the means. In other words, he doesn’t care how he accomplishes it as long as he receives his happy ending with Daisy. Finally, while both Gatsby and Myrtle follow the “end justifies means” philosophy, a great juxtaposition can be identified in relation to the actions and beliefs of George Wilson. Wilson’s character is stuck, trapped in his garage in the Valley of Ashes. He survives in a lifeless and unnoticeable existence.…

In The Great Gatsby, Tom Buchanan mentions racial fears and anxieties going on during the modernist period when talking to Nick Caraway. He says, “Civilization’s going to pieces…the white race will be utterly submerged. It’s all scientific stuff; it’s been proved”. Scientific discoveries during the early part of the modernist period were against the mixing of races because African Americans were viewed as biologically inferior to whites. Some believed that racial inferiority was not based on science, but rather based on racial dominance in society, and it is the white race that has been in control throughout history.…
