The Great Gatsby is one of those films that you must really pay attention to understand the moral and concept of the story and movie plot line. This is by far one of my favorite movies that I have watched. I am pretty sure everyone wishes they could live like Jay Gatsby. The 1974 version of The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby and Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan and other stars from that era of movies really made this movie what it is and will always be in many movie lovers eyes. I felt the 1974’s version made the costume look a lot better because it was filmed closer to the time when the story took place so they had better visuals and costume ideas for the characters. Some of the costumes were very unique and had a more modern take on the 1920’s while I felt in the most recent Great Gatsby a lot of the costumes thrived around sex appeal for women and for men it was more of who stood out. The scene I though showed a great example of that was win Tom Buchannan and Nick Carraway were driving in the city and they stop at the Auto and Body shop which looked to be in a rougher area of New York. It was Mr. Wilsons shop but Mr. Wilson’s wife, Mrs. Wilson was cheating on her husband with Tom Buchannan. In the original film Mrs. Wilson came down the stairs with no sex appeal what so ever. You can tell that the focus of this scene was more getting the point across that it was she was Toms mistress with the interactions. From the latest Gatsby, this scene had a little but of action, drama, and even sex appeal. Mrs. Wilson came downstairs in a tight red dress, showing cleavage. I felt like the costume really was one standout especially with this scene where the remake made you not just understand that Mrs. Wilson was Toms mistress not through language and action but also by clothing and body language. …show more content…
They had at least 30 more workers in the house of Tom Buchannan’s mansion and Gatsby paid a lot to have many more workers fix Nicks house before daisy came over. You could tell because of the shots and how they had a variety of different shots in the 2013 movie. You saw a lot of close up shots especially when Nick got drugged and drunk at the hotel. I felt like you could see his pupils and the gloss in his eyes. Also the wide shots when Daisy was lying on the couch. I feel in the 1974 version there was not as many cameras and they followed different people instead of switching cameras. I think the 2013 film showed more emphasis on action as apposed to the 1974 film where it relied on
