Jay Gatsby is a mysterious man that nobody knows the background of. He is a very rich and handsome young man who lives in a huge mansion beside our other protagonist Nick Carraway. Gatsby is known for his lavish parties he throws every single saturday night. As The Great Gatsby goes on, Nick learns more and more about Jay and where he comes from. We learn that Jay Gatsby grew up on a farm in North Dakota. Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway are the two protagonist and also the biggest characters in the story. Some other smaller characters consist of: Tom Buchanan, Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Myrtle Wilson. Tom Buchanan is Daisy’s husband. He is a very wealthy man who was once apart of Nick Carraway’s social club at Yale. Tom is a very arrogant man and his personality screams sexism and racism. Tom is having an affair with Myrtle while he is married to Daisy. Which in fact is ironic because when he notices that Daisy is having an affair with Jay Gatsby he demands that him and Jay have a confrontation.
