When reading The Great Gatsby, I find that the phenomenon that judging others’ business and dreams also exists. Gatsby is a mysterious millionaire character in the first several chapters. That nobody knows who Gatsby really is even makes him more mysterious. His wealth and business become something that people love to guess and gossip. Nick, the only friend of Gatsby in the end, questions things that said out from Gatsby’s mouth. Whatever Gatsby says, Nick has a question mark on his head. But the situation is different here because it’s true that Gatsby doesn’t say all true. When Nick shows his doubts and confusion, all Gatsby do is changing his performance because he wants to be more persuasive. This is different from the situation when people say all truth and talk about dreams, they want to be understood and appreciated but not questioned. For example, I’m a Drama major student. However I didn’t listen to their suggestions and kept reaching for my goal. I was lucky that my family is able to support my living and my needs. A year ago I have no idea of what I’m going to become or do when I graduate, but going to act, and becoming an actress is not as easy as I thought. I have no working experience and really confused about my future. After me and my boyfriend got to know each other and I told him about my dream and is confused with my future. He rejected my goal and told me that I won’t last a day in the Chinese entertainment system, which to become successful I will have to pay the price that I will regret for the rest of my life, I knew he’s right but I don’t have any plan and it was my dream growing up. I was really sad and hopeless. In this case, question other people’s dreams can be a dream killer. Dreams are beautiful but fragile, that it’s hard to establish, but easy to destroy.
Judging other people’s dreams can be rude and a dream killer. Advise people with your fact and knowledge, but never judge. You never know what you have harmed with your judgment; sometimes it’s more than just
