Examples Of Forgotten Love In The Great Gatsby

Forgotten Love In the book The Great Gatsby, social class had a lot to do with the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy. Before Gatsby left for war he pledged his love for Daisy but for this time and age love to Daisy was a man who had the money to wow her. Not saying she wasn’t in love with him but considering she probably wasn’t too bright to actually know what love feels like. Another key issues in this book with Gatsby losing Daisy would be him being stuck in the past. One thing that every reader in my opinion hates seeing is Gatsby end up being devastated because no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t be with the love of his life. In the end he still may be wealthy but wasn’t born into it. Also Daisy’s family had a lot to do with …show more content…
Another big way greed come in was after Daisy killed Myrtle, it seems like she was smart enough to know that Tom has the money and the connection to keep her out of trouble and when it came to Gatsby his money and reputation as a bootlegger wouldn’t be able to keep her as safe. . I do believe that Daisy was in love with Gatsby but love is worthless to her unless money stands behind it. Greed plays has its fair share in this book, for example Toms cheating on Daisy because he probably just wants more girls to love while Gatsby see that it as that alone should be enough to win Daisy over. Even with the face of an angle Gatsby would basically have to impress daisy everyday with flashy things. All the money Gatsby made meant nothing to him without Daisy people who went to his parties didn’t care about him at all, this is why greed is an issue in this …show more content…
One reason I believe Gatsby didn’t win her over was because he was in a way afraid to confront tom about it. The fact that she had kid with Tom also really got to Gatsby almost devastating especially when he referred to Pam as and it in the book. One thing you won’t be able to do is separate a child from her mother. You could even tell form both the book and the movie that Pammy meant the world to Daisy and when it comes to what she wants it almost a no thinking type of situation. For the most part I feel like a lot what had to do with Daisy not being able to marry Gatsby was her family would have had to tell her she wasn’t allowed to marry poor and after a while something like that would permanently be stuck in your

Despite texts being written in different eras, they can still reflect similar enduring values that can transcend their own contexts. These values are the subconscious ideals that influence the way all human beings behave and act. Such ideals are shaped by the sociocultural, economic and historical contexts. This idea is clearly seen through the comparison of the novel, ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F Scott Fitzgerald and the Sonnets of the Portuguese, XIV and XXII by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Regardless of the diverse contexts and perspectives of Browning and Fitzgerald, it is highly evident that their exploration of human nature 's value of love and hope are indeed shared between the texts.…
