He removed the temptation that was stealing Daisy’s affections so he would be the only man in her life. Just like Myrtle was taken from him. It became a new slate for the two of them, so they could start anew and attempt to stay true to one another. But the lengths taken to secure her love was life altering, as well as life ending.
