The narrator, on the 1st person does the story as a witness and actor in the drama. It therefore takes the role of the reader, as it perceives the hero and the other characters that, through the vision of Nick Carraway, the narrator. The tone and the vision he will give the drama are justified from the first page. "Every time you prepare to criticize someone...” (p. 19) Nick is not the spokesman of his hero, but does not send forth judgment. Before considering the narrator himself then Gatsby and other characters, we will focus on how the writer has organized this novel to give it a dramatic interest and a growing tension. The story is staged, a queued player that really perceives when the reader rereads again. The ability of the narrative is not to present Gatsby but to evoke him very negatively by the narrator, p. 20. But from the outset we learn that this man died decried at the time of the story. The mystery, awaiting explanation leads the reader 's interest.
