In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald explains how Gatsby strived for this goal of being wealthy day and night. The narrator was one of few to ever be invited to Gatsby’s parties. When Nick had first arrived he had seen so many people just show up. Nick was astonished "...People were not invited- they went there." (Fitzgerald 41). Gatsby threw huge extravagant parties, parties with alcohol, parties that showed how much money he had, parties that would attract Daisy to them. .Fitzgerald uses the color yellow and gold to symbolize wealth. Nick examines the party with his keen eyes. Yellow cocktail music is playing at the party. Turkey at the party is "bewitched to dark gold". While walking with Jordan, Nick and Jordan sit with two girls in yellow dresses. Gatsby is also seen wearing a golden tie while meeting Daisy after five years. Daisy is referred as the “Golden Girl”. These colors are not only used to represent wealth, but also corruption and destruction. The car Daisy and Gatsby are driving in was yellow. Daisy sees Myrtle who was Tom’s mistress and drives straight for her. Then keeps driving after hitting the woman. Later on, Gatsby is blamed for the affair and murder. The glasses of T. Money creates corrupt people, Corrupt people create a corrupt world. After the narrator heard the true story about Jay Gatsby, he realizes that James Gats had created an illusion of himself. Jay Gatsby was part of another world. James Gats was a very poor boy. By the age of adulthood “...he invented the the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old would be likely to invent…” (Fitzgerald 98). James Gats had transformed himself into a man that very second of his life. From then on he was Jay Gatsby, a man. In his world, Gatsby surrounded himself around rich people and rich material possessions. Gatsby bought an enormous mansion, fast coupes, clothes from overseas, who had servants, and had no worries. This lifestyle was what he had obtained from the American Dream. In Gatsby new world, everything around him was white. Throughout the novel, everyone who had money, was seen wearing white clothing.
