Their relationship is a main part of the book as well. Daisy is married to a man named Tom but Daisy and Gatsby are secretly in love. Gatsby and Daisy knew each other in the past and were reunited once again. “You must know Gatsby.” “Gatsby?” demanded Daisy. “What Gatsby?” (Page 11) This quote shows that Daisy remembered Gatsby from the past but was hiding it and she didn’t realize he lived near her. F.-----” I didn’t hear the rest of the name because I hung up the receiver.” (Page 169) Nick asked if the guy wanted to come to Gatsby’s funeral, he laughed and just asked for him to send his tennis shoes to him. Nick had no time or patience to deal with people who didn’t actually care about Gatsby and that's why he hung up. Again he felt he owed Gatsby something and throwing him the funeral was it.
Nick cared for Gatsby and was one of the only people that did care for him. The only people to come to his funeral were a few servants, the minister of the service, the postman of West Egg, Gatsby’s father, Nick, and Owl Eyes. He most only had acquaintances that came to his parties. Daisy was the only person he cared about. The only reason he threw the parties every weekend was he hoped Daisy would eventually show up to one. Gatsby loved Daisy, always did. Daisy never loved him enough,
