The movie Cinderella Man takes place in the 1930s during the American great depression. The main character in the move is boxer James, J, Braddock who in the start is a competitor for the worlds heavyweight championship. In the movie james breaks his hand and it costs him the chance. Later in the movie, during a minor fight he breaks it again which leads to the decision of revoking his boxing licence allowing him to no longer fight and to make money to support his family financially. The movie tells his story from his darkest moments to his highest highs. There are very important events in the story that if it wasn’t for the decisions he made then and there it would have hindered him. The story is based on factual events and locations but …show more content…
It is revealed that his is a contender for the Worlds HeavyWeight championship and as that scene closes it skips 4 years in the future. The new scene shows the Braddocks in a underground apartment unlike their very big house just seen before. This scene tells us a lot about the life they live now, first off when their young daughter is done eating and asks for more the mother says they must save it. When this was happening she also watered down the milk she was giving to make the impression of having a lot. When James is at the docks where he works there is a gate and when the Boss comes out he choses the amount of people that were needed that day the rest were forced to go home. I thought these scenes depicted the life of an american family during the american depression well as they showed the hardships of living in such a time. When he is forced to give it back he said it was because he was worried about being sent away from the family, which seemed to be the thing that was happening all over the country people couldnt support each other so the children would be sent off and men would leave their wives. James understand his boys distress and promises him that he would never send him away. James still trying to cling onto his boxing, still fights or at least tries to and this fight while fighting injured he breaks his hand again but know it would be hurting the family more now because his working would be affected now as well. He goes home to his wife and she was astatic because of how he was not going to be able to work but he come up with and idea to cover it with shoe polish. A few scenes later when James finally gets picked to work at the docks after barely edging out of getting caught he arrives home to an empty house and the only one there is his wife. James, after an argument with Mae says he is going to go everything to get his kids back. He takes out an Emergency fund to try and get his kids back along with this he also goes to the boxing management and begs them to help get his kids
