The manner in which Canadians responded after succumbing to the challenges of the Great Depression can be deemed as ineffective. Foremost, the Conservative government, which had prioritized the resolution of the ever-increasing unemployment rates, did not deliver sufficiently on its promises. Instead of assisting in relief efforts through providing social services, Bennett prioritized the re-establishment of Canadian trade by increasing tariffs. Although initially beneficial, this lack of social concern only lead to more disparity. Additionally, the lack of Federal aid and control during the depression resulted in a lack of collaborative efforts amongst the regions of Canada, with a lingering sense of regionalism developing.
