The Great Depression transformed most of the American citizens. According to History.com, “By 1933 when the Depression reached its nadir (the lowest point in the fortunes of a person or organization), 13 to 15 million Americans were unemployed and nearly half of the country's banks had failed.” (Histroy.com Staff) The downturn in spending and investment led factories and other businesses to slow down production and construction. Consequently, they didn’t have enough money so they had to begin firing workers. Also, breadlines and soup kitchens started because citizens didn’t have enough money to pay for their own food.
